Camping at Mount Katadhin

This post is going to have a lot of pictures and very few words. Trevor and Rob had a great time camping and hiking. Trevor's teacher was a great guide and very knowledgeable Trevor had a great time with all his friends from classHe came home absolutely exhausted. He said he had fun but the hiking was difficult and he did not get nearly enough sleep. He was also eaten alive by bugs. He has bites all over his face, his eyes and even in his ears. The pictures are beautiful and will have to tell the story, seeing I was not there. They saw some moose, even a bull moose.

Rob said he looks forward to camping again and that says a whole lot!

Go U.S.A.

Rob and Trevor are headed to Mount Katahdin to camp and hike with Trevor's 3rd grade class and teacher. Trevor is super excited, even though it is super early for him to be up and ready to go. He is going to have a blast. I am not a big fan of camping and mostly because it requires so much preparation. This is just the beginning. What I will miss is this.Wow, how beautiful. This is Chimney Pond where they stop for lunch on the hike up Katahdin. I have instructed the boys to take LOTS of pictures. I was specific too, requesting pictures of them in the scenery, not all pictures of the scenery. I hope they have a great time and come home not too smelly and dirty!

A Bad Rap.

Griffin took a great nap yesterday and he woke happy, happy, happy. He had a good afternoon. He was a sweet, playful, little angel. He went to bed fairly easily and, most importantly, he did not wake all night! He is a sweet, for the most part, great little guy which is why I have been so frustrated with his not so happy personality the past few days. I may have given Griffin a bad rap in my last post.I am hopeful that the past few days have been off days and we are headed back in the right direction... to the easy going, happy-go-lucky, sweet, fun Griffin. Yay!{And if not, maybe I will take the crankiness better since I got an uninterrupted nights sleep!}

Griffin has been one really cranky little boy since last Thursday, the day of his surgery. I am not sure if he is not feeling well from surgery (although he should be fine from the surgery) or what.He has been drooling like mad, crying at the drop of a hat and waking from sleep crying quite frequently.I am hoping this is short lived, really short lived. All this crankiness has left mama feeling quite tired and cranky herself. Well, off to put the cranky one down for a nap... lets hope he wakes in a different mood!

Father's Day.

We had a fun Father's Day.
We slipped
And we slided.
We played the forehead game.
Most importantly, we spent it with the best dad in the whole world...OURS!
We love you.

Surgery Day

Griffin did as well as can be expected in surgery today. The adenoids are out and a new set of tubes are in place. He has about 4 holes in his arm because they had a hard time getting the IV in. His doctor said it was hard finding a vein through all the chubbiness. They finally got an IV inserted at the bend of his arm. He is going to have one bruised arm between the IV attempts and the actual IV location. He was not happy when he woke from surgery. He was very, very upset, so upset that they actually gave him some morphine through his IV. He did finally calm down and shorty after calming down, he was discharged. He was very happy to be leaving the hospital. Since being home, he has done pretty well and is almost back to himself. I am exhausted... I feel as if I ran a marathon. We are glad today is behind us and hopefully this will be it for a very long while!

Tubes tomorrow.

Tomorrow is Griffin's 3rd tube surgery. I am a worrier and although this is an all to familiar road, I still get concerned. I hate for Griffin to have to go through this again... he is so young and just does not understand what all this is about. Today, I am going to be positive and say this will be his last tube surgery. These long term tubes and the adenoids removed are going to do the trick and keep Griffin ear infection free for a long, long time (or even forever). That makes Mommy and Griffin really happy! His surgery is bright and early Thursday morning and we be praying all goes well (as I am sure it will).

Last and First.

Tomorrow is the last day of school. Trevor will say goodbye to 3rd grade and Nolan will be leaving 1st grade. AMAZING. Both of the boys had an awesome, wonderful school year. They grew like weeds, learned like sponges, made great friends and had the best teachers!
This year, Nolan has learned to read like a champ and what is even better is that he is ENJOYING reading. He has made some good friends and has learned to navigate school, the rules and learned the process. It is hard to imagine a year better than this one but I know he is going to have a great year next year also. I know the teacher he has next year and she is great.Trevor had a stellar year. He is super smart and has excelled in reading, spelling, science and math. He has made some good friends and has had a ton of fun. His teacher is a joker and loves to do things outside of the box and Trevor has loved that.I could not have asked for a more perfect year for either one of them. I just wish it did not go by in the blink of an eye. How is it that it feels like just yesterday I was sending them off to the first day of 3rd and 1st grade?
August 09, the first day of school. Okay, is it just me or do they look babies in this picture????

An Evening Ride.

Our day began with rain. Trevor and Nolan both had baseball games in the rain. I took Trevor to his and Rob took Nolan to his game. I sat in the rain with an umbrella. Let's just say it was not my favorite baseball game to watch. I am definitely a fair weather baseball fan.
After watching some of the World Cup games, the day cleared up and we did some yard work.
Griffin and Rob even went for an evening bike ride. Griffin loves going for bike rides with daddy. He often sits in the bike trailer with his helmet (usually backwards) on and waits.

Relationships according to a 9 year old.

Trevor does not talk about school or what is going on often, but today in the car he was quite chatty! All through the conversation, I was biting my check not to laugh and replaying the conversation in my head so I would not forget it. At the end of our conversation, he swore me to not tell dad... okay I will not tell dad but he did not tell me I could not blog about it... after all he knows I am always blogging. So the conversation goes like this:

T: I have a crush on Gertrude (I changed the name to protect the innocent) but so do a lot of the boys in my class. One boy even said he had a relationship with Gertrude.

Me: What does it mean to have a relationship?

T: smoochy- smoochy and kissy-kissy.

Me: Don't you think you are to young for a relationship?

T: Yeah, you're not supposed to start dating someone until you are in 4th grade.

Me: Really, so what do you do when you date someone?

T: Well, in 4th grade you date, 5th grade you hug and 6th grade you kiss, but only on the cheek and not for a long time, only like a second. And when you get to high school you kiss on the lips for a longer time.

Me: Wow! You are not going to date though right?

T: Dad wants me to. He wants me to get married and have kids so you will have grand kids.

Me: I don't think Daddy wants you to get married until your much older and he would like you to be even older when you have kids.

T: I was thinking I will marry at 26 and have kids at around 28.

Me: Good idea.

T: Please don't tell dad. He will disgrace me if you tell him.

Okay, so if you see Trevor pretend like you know nothing about this conversation. I am feeling a little guilty about posting it but I thought it was so cute and I don't want to forget it. Remember, don't tell Trevor.

Field Day

Griffin and I went to visit Nolan at his field day. Griffin was so happy to be with the big boys and Nolan was thrilled to show him off. All the little girls just loved him. Nolan had fun in the bouncy house and riding down the big blow up slide. He had an opportunity to show off some of his dance moves and got to get up close and personal with a snake. Last years (09) field day, he also got cozy with the snake. It is amazing how much he has grown.Griffin looked on from a distance... I don't blame him, if it was not for me wanting to get a picture, I would have been hiding behind a tree. Nolan's teacher made these cute shirts for all the kids with a picture of the class on the front. It was so nice to participate in Nolan's field day. He was very happy to have us there and 3 different teachers (gym, reading and an Ed Tech) told me what a wonderful child he is! Makes me proud!

Growing Up.

Today, Griffin and I surprised Trevor at his 3rd grade field day. He and his entire class were Team Greece and all had matching blue tie dye shirts. He competed in some relays and had great time! Griffin and I were only able to stay for a short while. I got pretty tired of chasing him off the relay course and distracting him from the playground. Trevor came home with a certificate promoting him to 4th grade. I just can't believe that in a few weeks I am going to have a 4th grader and a 2nd grader. Boy does the time fly, weren't they just born yesterday?
{Don't mind the drool, he had a big piece of salt water taffy in his mouth. The boys loves taffy.}
Speaking of growing up... take Griffin for a haircut and he goes from a toddler to a little boy. I think his hair is a little short, but I know it will grow back. Both Trevor and Nolan (who notice next to nothing) commented on his haircut. Trevor even said he likes it longer.

Tomorrow I will be going to Nolan's 1st grade field day. Again, where has the time gone?

Griffin has decided he loves Thomas the Train. This new found love of Thomas and all his friends, makes this mama so happy! Trevor was absolutely obsessed with Thomas. The sweet memoires I have of Trevor playing with trains along with the thousands of dollars we have invested in wooden railroads, light and sound bridges and little painted train engines.... make me so glad to see them being used again. This is one toy I will never part with and I am thrilled Griffin is enjoying them (almost) as much as his biggest brother did.
