  • Last night we celebrated Trevor's birthday at Red Robin.  It was a long night.  What we were told would be a 30 minute wait turned into a hour wait!  The boys were great though.  They sang happy birthday to my 11 year old.
  • Griffin's teacher is pregnant and he told me the other day that she ate the baby to get it in her tummy.  We were all laughing.  Oh, so cute!
  • Rob got offered a new job at work.  Way to go, Bubs.  We are all so proud of you.
  • Today I got a much needed haircut.  My hair has been driving me crazy the last week or so.
  • This morning Griffin woke early yelling and crying.  When I went to him, he was standing in the very corner of his bed.  He told me there were snakes in his bed.  Poor guy, I scooped him up and brought him to my room.  If you know me, I am TERRIFIED of snakes and this is my very worst dream {and I have it often}.  Does everyone have dreams of snakes in their bed??
  • Woke yesterday to snow, it snowed today and last week we had 80 degree weather.  Mother nature, what is going on?  Is it winter or summer?
  • Parent-teacher conferences were today.  Both boys are doing great in school.  Nolan is loving math and Trevor wrote a great story {I may have to post it}.  I am so proud of both of them.
  • Nolan is such a clown.  I ask him to smile and I get all kinds of crazy faces and arm poses.

Happy Birthday {11}

Happy, happy eleventh birthday.
I could not ask for more in a son.  You are bright, hard working, caring, thoughtful and loving.  Eleven years old.  Wow, this will be a big year.  You will start middle school this year.  Without a doubt, I know you will be successful in middle school.
You have made my job so easy and I am so incredibly blessed to be your mom, so blessed to be your mother!
I love you more than you can even imagine.  I am so proud of you.  I know your eleventh year will be great.  Happy, happy birthday, Trevor.  Enjoy your day and I hope your eleventh year is the best yet!

Odyssey of the Mind {2012}

Because I am overtired and have many mixed feelings, I am not sure how to translate all the thoughts in my head into words.
Let's start with Nolan.  This was his first year doing Odyssey.  He was with coaches and on a team of all first time Odyssey participants. What this group of boys accomplished is amazing.  They did an incredible job.  They did not get a 3rd, 2nd or 1st place award, but they definitely deserved one.  Nolan, of course, was disappointed, but he had a great time and hopes to participate again next year.  I am incredibly proud of what he and his team accomplished.  Way to go Nolan.
I, again, coached Trevor and his team.  What an incredible group of boys I had the privilege of coaching.  They worked tirelessly and did an excellent job solving a very difficult problem creatively.  They came in 3rd place out of 17 teams, which is pretty impressive.  After winning first place two years in a row, Trevor and I were disappointed about 3rd place for a few short minutes.  The disappointment was quickly replaced with relief.  I am happy to have a break from Odyssey.  After spending the past three months living, breathing and sleeping Odyssey I will enjoy my break from it.
Bottom line, both Trevor and Nolan did an incredible job.  The commitment is huge and the boys went to every meeting with a smile and creative ideas.  Great job, boys.  It is impossible to express how proud I am of you both!

A Bike Accident

Too sharp of a turn for one just learning to ride his bike,
resulted in a bloody, skinned up elbow
and a very, very sad little boy.
Hopefully, he will be back on the bike really soon.

The End of the Season

And a great season it was!
This weekend the boys played in a hockey tournament to end the season.
The year was great.  All the boys did such a great job.
I am so proud of Nolan.  He really became quite the hockey star this year.
His coach, when handing out medals, said although he talked to him a lot about body control, he was the most improved player.
I am sad to see the season come to an end and I look forward to next year.

  • Life has been crazy!  Busy, busy, busy.  I am looking forward to life slowing down a little.  Work has been hectic.  The kids schedules have been out of control and I am running on empty!
  • I love my quiet mornings.  I wake early so I can have a little bit of alone time and watch the sun rise.
  • Speaking of love, I love my Griffin so much.  He is really starting to become a little boy.  He is the perfect combination of sassy, stubborn, strong-willed, silly and sweet.
  • Odyssey of the Mind has been a huge time sucker.  I have been meeting with my team a lot.  There is still a lot of work before March 24th's state finals.  Nolan is participating this year, too, which adds to the fun and the chaos.
  • Lately, I have wanted to shelter my children from the cruel world.  I hate to see them get disappointed by friends, coaches and teachers.  I know it is all part of life.  But my heart hurts so much when my kids are let down.
  • Trevor is going to be 11, yes 11, in a few weeks.  The teen years are knocking on our door,  not sure how long I can ignore the knocking.  {This may be attributing to the above bullet point... middle school is in our very near future.}
  • I looked for my Easter decorations today, but could not find them.  Our basement needs to be cleaned and organized in a big way!
  • Nolan has a hockey tournament this weekend.  He also has his end of the year celebration.  It has been a great year for Nolan.  He has really become quite the hockey player.
  • Griffin is going to have a special day with Gia, TG and Kelsey on Saturday.  He may even have his first sleep over at Gia's... we will see how it goes.
  • I have a few hours of free time today {yay!} so I am off to meet Rob for lunch.

I Wish...

I wish...
  • I was more confident in my writing, in my work, in my appearance and just in general.
  • I could eat every meal out.
  • I had hair that I did not have to spend 30 minutes blow drying.
  • I were a better photographer.
  • I were sitting on a sunny, tropical beach somewhere right now.
  • I could rock work out clothes.  Some people look so put together in sweats.  I just look like a frumpy slob.
  • I did not let a messy house make me feel so out of control.
  • I was more creative.  Maybe this goes back to my confidence.
  • I could have fresh flowers and clean sheets every day.
  • I was a better mother.
  • I would put myself out there more, allowing myself to be vulnerable.
  • I had a little dog that liked to wear bows and sit on my lap.
Some of these things will never be, but others I can work on and improve.  These are just a few of the things I am wishing today.

It Is Snowing

It was snowing when we woke this morning
{school and preschool was cancelled}
The boys played together, argued and each spent some time in their room's.
We made cookies and brownies together.
I have these to remind me that it is indeed March, and spring will be coming.
And as we head into the afternoon, it is still snowing!
