Nolan's First Day

Nolan started 4th grade today.
He was very excited for school this year.  He likes the teacher he got and has some good friends in his class.
He had a great first day.  He is already planning play dates and sleep overs.
I am so relieved all three boys went to school and came home from school on the first day with big smiles.
Looks like it is going to be a great year at the Gava home!

Middle School

Trevor is officially a middle school student.
And I am officially (like it or not) the mother of a middle schooler.
I did a great job holding in my tears until my sweet Trevor told me he loved me and hopped out of the car.  After he closed the door, I sobbed, yeah, not just a few tears, but sobbed.
Trevor had a good day and I knew he would.  It is just so hard to believe he is growing up so quickly.
According to Trevor, school was  a little boring today because the day was spent discussing the rules.  He is happy to be in middle school and reports he does not want to go back to elementary school.  It's a good thing, Trevor, because there is no turning back now.

Pre-K

It is a BIG, BIG week here at the Gava household.
Today my BABY started Pre-K.  One more year and he will be in school...impossible!
With a big smile on my face, I sent him out the door to school with Daddy.  Once he was out of sight, a few tears ran down my face.
He had a great day.  All his friends are in his class, the only difference is the teachers and the room.
Tomorrow my first baby starts middle school (oh, my) and on Thursday, Nolan starts 4th grade.
I know the boys will do great and I know I will shed a few more tears.  A big week, indeed!

Soccer Season

Soccer has begun!!
Trevor (#13)is playing in his 4th year of travel soccer
and Nolan (#00) is playing in his first year (after just missing the age cut off last year).
There is not much I enjoy more than cheering my boys on from the sidelines.
I love this time of year!

This, That and Phone Pics

  • Trevor starts 6th grade (middle school), Nolan starts 4th grade and Griffin starts Pre-K next week.  Unbelievable...where did the summer go?
  • Yesterday I spent the evening on Cow Island for a company lobster bake.  The island was amazing.  There are many old military forts on the island and no homes.  It was fun to explore the island.
  • Trevor picked out a headset he wants made by Ludicrous.  I don't care who makes them but I think it is ludicrous to spend $300 on a headset.  He is thinking he will ask for a more reasonably priced set for Christmas.
  • Nolan went for an asthma follow up appointment.  His lung capacity was 74% last time and it was 92% this time.  We knew he was looking and feeling better on the medicine, but I had no idea how much better he was doing.  He will continue on the Singular and we have added a prescription nasal spray.  His doctor is hoping this will clear up some of the inflammation in his nose.
  • Eric Clapton's boat was in the Portland harbor last night.  I guess he comes annually.  We did not see him on the boat though.
  • Soccer starts big time this weekend.  Between Trevor and Nolan we have 4 games.  I am pretty excited to cheer on my young athletes.
  • The sunset last night off Cow Island was just beautiful.  It was so red.  My phone camera could not do it justice.
  • Have a great weekend!

Finally

My new camera has finally arrived (a day later than I would have liked since I missed pictures of Nolan's party)
and I am in LOVE!
Now if only I could get my
three favorite subjects
excited, too!
(and Photoshop to work.)

Happy 9th Birthday

Today Nolan turns 9 years old!
He has been looking forward to this day for months now.  Last week we celebrated with a camping themed birthday with his friends and today we celebrate with family.
Nolan is a challenging boy.  I hope as he gets older he learns to channel his spunk and determination in a more positive manner.  He is the sweetest, most thoughtful boy I know.  He is sensitive, very sensitive.  He is a great little athlete that never stops moving.  He is a smart boy that needs to get more confidence in this area.  There are days that I want to bang my head against a wall because he challenges me so much but I can't imagine a day without him.  He has taught me so much and makes my days brighter with his sweet smile and big bear hugs.
I love you, Nolan.  I know a lot of great things are in store for you and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you.
Happy, happy 9th birthday!

A House Guest

This week we have been hosting a soccer coach from England.  I have to say I was so nervous about this.  It is way out of my comfort zone.  The thought of having a stranger stay in my house for the week was very uncomfortable to me.  Thankfully Rob and the boys convinced me it would be a great experience.
I am so glad we did it.  Zak spent the week with us and we had a great time.  He fit so easily into our family.  Ten minutes after arriving, Griffin was on his lap.  Nolan worked on learning his accent, because according to Nolan "girls love accents".  Trevor quizzed him about his interests.
We took him out in Portland.  He had lobster and fried clams for the first time.  He made opening my house to a "stranger" very easy.  Thanks to Zak, we are all looking forward to hosting a coach again next year.
The experience is one the boys will not forget any time soon.  I don't think I will either.  Thanks Zak for spending the week with us!

(Still waiting for my camera to arrive!  Pictures from the iphone.)

Amusement Park

Yesterday Rob and I took the big boys to Canobie Lake Park for the day.  It was a blast.  All my pictures are from my phone since I had to order a new camera and it is not here yet :(.  (Can't wait to have a real camera again.) amusement
The first ride we went on was a roller coaster.  Nolan was excited to go, but we may have traumatized the poor kid.  He was not to happy after the roller coaster and was pretty hesitant to go on any other rides that were remotely scary.
He did finally decide to try one more roller coaster at the end of the day.  He said he liked it, but I am not convinced.
Trevor on the other hand loved the roller coasters.  He is a kid after my own heart.  At one point we got right off the roller coaster just to get on again.  There was no lines!
That is T and me in the front row!
There is a new coaster at the park called Untamed.  Trevor said he would go on it but then chickened out.  Finally one of the roller coaster operators convinced him that the ride was not that bad, so he finally got the courage to ride it.
Hard to see that is us going down and, yup, we went straight up the other side... good times!  It was crazy.  The ride took you straight up, there was no gradual hill.  There was three upside down loops.  Trevor had so much fun, we went on it twice!
And Griffin, he had a great day with his Gia.  They went to Chuck E. Cheese and he has already asked when Gia can spend the day with him again.
