Life according to my phone

We continue to be busy, busy, busy.  When will life slow down. Between fundraising for Odyssey and doctors appointments, there is very little time left.  Griffin went for a follow up on his ears.  Things still don't look great so we are going to start him on allergy meds to hopefully clear up some of the congestion and keep his ears free of infection.  It looks like he will be getting a new set of tubes and his tonsils out soon.
So according to my phone, this is what we have been up to...
After 16 months of having braces, Nolan is finally brace-free.  He was thrilled to be able to chew gum again.  He now has a retainer he has to wear.
I chaperoned Nolan's field trip to the State house.  It was a perfect day for it.

The group I chaperoned took a step back in time at the State Museum.

We took the boys to a Japanese Steak House.  They had a blast and want to go every week.
Rob caught a sweet moment between my buddy and me.  Love this boy!
Happy Monday!

Checking In {bullet points}

  • Trevor is doing well and recovering nicely.  He is such a trooper.  His stomach is black and blue but he reports it only hurts when he twists.  The pathology reports came back showing that he did indeed have acute appendicitis. The pathology report did show the possibility of future issues with his bowels. I am trying not to worry about this today.  Nothing we can do to change it, he is not currently having any symptoms and hopefully it will not result in anything.
  • I have been really busy with Odyssey.  Trevor and his team decided to go to worlds, so we are knee deep in all things fundraising in hopes to offset some of the costs.  I am excited to take this group of 5 6th graders.  It should be fun.
  • Today, after a rainy start to the morning, the sun is shinning, the temp hit 68 degrees and it is really feeling like spring.  Yay!
  • Nolan gets his braces off tomorrow after having them for 1.5 years.  He is so excited to be able to chew gum again.
  • Griffin went to the dentist on Monday. He did a great job and sat in the dental chair by himself for the first time. He has some major crowding issues and his teeth are very tight together.  He has a few cavities in these back teeth.  The dentist assures me that this is very normal with young children with tight teeth.  He will have to have some of these teeth worked on under general anesthesia in the next month or so.
  • Anyways, with all that is going on, I am just trying to keep my head above water and stay positive, but I must say this has been very difficult.  I just want to have happy, healthy kids {is that too much to ask}. I know things could be worse {a lot worse} but still I have been struggling...
  • Looking forward to a beautiful spring weekend with lots of sun!  We have spring soccer games this weekend.

After about 40 hours of on and off pain in Trevor's lower right side of his abdomen, I decided to take him to the doctor.  At times he was hunched over in pain and I just had a feeling something was not right.
I tried many times to make myself believe it was not appendicitis because he could bend over and the pain was not constant.  As soon as we arrived at urgent care, I started to just know he had appendicitis (I had deja vu because we were in the same waiting room months before with Debbie when she was diagnosed with acute appendicitis).
An ultrasound confirmed that Trevor had acute appendicitis.  Trevor and I headed directly to the hospital to have his appendix removed.
Trevor was so scared (and so was I), but he was so brave and strong (unlike me, I was trying to hold it together but was a mess).
Surgery went well and Trevor is home recovering.  He is glad it is over and wants to put it all behind him.  We can't wait to see him up and about again in a few days, but not nearly as excited as he will be to be up and about.
This has been a hard couple months for Trevor.  He had his ear surgery in November and last week we found out he will have to repeat the surgery to fix the graft.  His middle ear collapsed, so they will go in and graft with cartilage this time.  He is not too happy to have 3 surgeries in 9 months.  Enough already.  Hopefully after this second ear surgery in July we will have a nice heathy stretch!

I am still in a state of disbelief about what happened in the wonderful city of Boston.
What was supposed to be such a patriotic day turned into a horrific tragedy.
My heart aches for all those affected by the act of terror that occurred yesterday, for the little 8 year old boy that lost his life, his family, all the others that were injured, the families and friends of those injured, the people who had to witness first hand such horror and the heroes that helped.
These situations are happening all to often and they are so hard to explain to my children.  I will never, ever understand how someone can commit such an act of violence so how can my 5, 9 or 12 year old make any sense of it.
I keep reminding myself and my children that there are many more good people in this world than bad people.  Yes, there are far more good people than bad.

Happy birthday to my very best friend.
Happy birthday, Mom.
Thank you for always supporting me, having faith in me {even when I did not} and loving me unconditionally.  You are an incredible mom and an amazing gia.
There are three boys that think the world of you {and I do, too}
Happy, happy birthday, Mom.
I love you!

Odyssey of the Mind {State Competition}

Yesterday's Odyssey of the Mind state competition was amazing.
Our team overcame a lot of adversity.  The team realized the team device was not working when they pulled it out of the vehicle at state finals.  They worked hard as a team to get it to work, and were finally successful at getting the "emails" to travel through the team created email server and spam filter.
The did a great job, performed well {even with a few hitches},
earned a 2nd place medal {woooohoooo}
and the opportunity to compete at Worlds in Michigan in May.
This was my favorite team yet.  What an amazing group of dedicated, kind, creative, thoughtful, hardworking, bright sixth graders!
I am particularly fond of one bunny.  Trevor, I am so proud, so proud, of you.  Thank you for allowing me the privilege of experiencing this incredible "odyssey" with you.

Easter {2013}

We had a wonderful Easter.
The sun was shinning and Spring was in the air.
The boys were excited for their Easter baskets and a day spent with family.
Trying to get a good picture of each of the boys is so difficult
And trying to get a picture of the three of them together is next to impossible.
It also does not help that my camera settings were all messed up on Easter and all my pictures are a little blurry.
I love all the Easter baskets.  So pretty.  At our home, the adults get a few treats for Easter, too.
Trevor and his basket.  Not only did the Easter bunny bring Trevor some yummy treats, he also brought him a shirt, shower gel and a computer game.
This is the face of a very excited boy.  He has been wanting a composite knee hockey stick for quite a while now and the Easter bunny brought him one.  He also got some hockey puck lights, knee hockey balls, shower stuff and some candy.
Griffin is so excited to check out all his goodies.  In his Easter basket, Griffin found a jelly cat puppy (the softest puppy ever), a planet game, a pirate puzzle, light up rubber ducky, some fun bath stuff and some sweet treats.
After baskets, the boys were off to search for eggs.
We had a wonderful meal, played games and enjoyed spending the day with our family.
As always, it was a wonderful Easter.

Trevor's {Family} Party

On Saturday, with family, we celebrated
Trevor's 12th birthday.
Since we are so busy right now, he will celebrate with friends in the next few weeks.
Happy Birthday, Trevor!
We love you!!!!
