First Day 7 & 5

Today was the first day of 7th grade for Trevor and the first day of 5th grade for Nolan.

As you can tell, gone are the days of collared shirts and plaid shorts for the first day of school.  Oh how I miss those days.  And can you tell how excited they were for me to take their pictures?!?

This morning as I was talking to Trevor about his first day, we checked the campus portal on my phone to confirm his advisory teacher we noticed his entire school schedule had been changed.  After calling the school to confirm that his schedule had indeed changed and ummm, thanking them for informing us, Trevor was super excited with his new schedule.  The middle school soccer coach is his advisor... to him, what could be better?  He had a great first day and seems very excited about the school year.  It is so nice to see him excited and happy!
Nolan has a brand new teacher and as in brand new I mean right out of college, nervous to meet the parents at open house brand new.  He is a nice guy and I am sure he will be a great teacher for Nolan.  Nolan came home from school all annoyed {in typical Nolan fashion}.  Thankfully he was happy with his school day but annoyed at the girl who got on the wrong bus and made his bus turn around to drop her back at school.

I think it may be a great year, which makes this mom so incredibly happy!

First Day of Kindergarten

I went to greet my sweet boy as he woke this morning.  It is a big day!  One of many firsts, but a big one... the first day of kindergarten.  I see it as an end of an era and the beginning of another.  A closing of one door for me, no more babies in my home and the opening of another, the great big world for Griffin.
I hopped in bed with him and asked him if he would stay this size forever.  His response, "If you pick me up before snack everyday, I can't grow bigger". Yeah, not exactly what I was thinking, but so sweet.  He then went on to tell me that, "when you or dad ask at the same time for me to sit on your lap, I will always sit on yours first... no matter how big I am."  Melt my heart.  This boy is so sweet and knows exactly what to say to his mom.
He told me he was excited about kindergarten.  That if he is good he will get a fish and on the first day of school he gets pickle seeds... yeah, I don't know what he is talking about?!?
Dressed and ready with a big smile, my big boy walked out the door with daddy, blew me a kiss and did not look back.  I blew him a big kiss, thanked God for my sweet, happy, confident boy and cried a few tears about the baby he is no longer and the wonderful boy he is!

Go Fly a Kite

Griffin has been asking for months now to go fly a kite. Yesterday, he could not wait any longer.  The weather may have not been perfect for kite flying but there was a little bit of wind.
Rob was able to get the kite up in the air but it did not stay there for too long.  But it was long enough to make Griffin happy.  He was so excited, jumping up and down, smiling and laughing. (My mom and I were on the deck watching the kite flying commenting on what a happy boy Griffin has always been.  The majority of the time Griffin is so happy.  He is such a sweet boy).
Griffin gave kite flying a try.  He did get the kite off the ground once or twice but only for a very brief time.  That was okay by him.  He was tickled pink by his kite flying ability.
After running in circles over and over, he handed the string back to daddy for another try.
Tomorrow Griffin starts kindergarten.  It is amazing how quickly the years go by.

Thoughts as the summer comes to an end

I can't believe summer is coming to an end. Busy schedules have already begun.  Soccer practice for Trevor or Nolan 4 days a week and game every single weekend.  I love watching the boys play soccer but I am just not ready to be back in the swing of school, schedules and schlepping kids from here to there.
I know this is going to sound like whining since I had such a blessed summer and got to spend much of it on the lake with my favorite people, but I feel like we missed half of the summer.  The weather and surgeries gave us a late start on summer and I feel like I am just getting into the summer swing.
I can't believe the littlest Gava boy is starting school this year, real school.  Griffin is headed to kindergarten.  Time really does fly by.  The transition is not going to be too bad for this overly emotional mom since he is staying at the same school and attending private kindergarten.  It is a great, loving, caring school and I think it is the perfect place for him to {continue to} learn and grow.  And lets face it, it is familiar and comfortable and there is no big, scary yellow bus to take him away.
And as I sit here and ramble, the tears are streaming down my face.  I have such mixed emotions.  I absolutely love my children at every stage of their lives but the time with them under my roof is so brief. As much as I look forward to the next stage, event, milestone... I want to savor today and I want it to last just a little longer {please}.

Since this post is going nowhere fast... I will wrap it up.  Off to take my big boys back to school shopping and enjoy every last minute of summer!

I waited forever to get these photos back from the photographer
and seriously this is as good as it gets.
Why is it so impossible to get my boys to all smile at once?!?
Seriously, boys I love you
but could you just once give me a good picture?

Happy 10th Birthday Nolan!

Ten years ago today, I gave birth to Nolan and life has been non-stop ever since.
Sassy, spunk and stubborn... you are one loved boy, Nolan.
Nolan decided to celebrate his 10th birthday at camp.  It was a beautiful day and a great way to spend such a special boys first double digit birthday.

Nolan was thrilled with his gifts.  He got a hockey net, a hockey xbox game, a Bruins jersey {do you see a theme}, lots of Under Armour clothes, a water remote control speed boat and money.  It was a good birthday and he loves all of his gifts.
He wanted lobster and chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, so that is what he got!
Happy, happy 10th birthday Nolan.  Hope your 10th year is the best yet!

Gone Fishing

The boys had fun fishing {especially Nolan and Griffin}.
Being silly!
Nolan caught a lot of little sun fish.
Trevor's friend had to catch and cook a fish for a scout project.
Nolan was so excited to eat the fish and he did eat it all.

Griffin almost came out of his skin when he caught a fish.  He was jumping up and down.
After catching the first fish, he patiently waited, and waited
and waited to catch another one.
He never caught another fish but he caught many trees and the boat repeatedly.

Exploring Long Pond

We had a great time exploring our new lake.

We checked out all the beautiful lake front houses.
but not this bridge
We went under the bridge

to {lower} Long Pond.
We went to {the first 15 minutes of} Movies on the Pond with popcorn in hand.  It was too hard to hear the movie.
We danced at the annual Dam Jam {soooo much fun}
We danced at our personal Dam Jam.

We jumped and jumped off the boat.

We found many excuses to go to Day's Store via boat {donuts, ice, peroxide, sweat shirts. etc}

We admired the beauty.
Most importantly,

we smiled

and smiled!
