Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas. Thankfully we were all well and enjoyed our family and friends and the many blessings we have.
On Christmas Eve, we had a handful of our favorite friends over to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. We ate and drank and laughed. It was lovely Christmas Eve.
After our company left, we went to bed in anticipation of Santa visiting.

Christmas day was so much fun. The boys are getting older so the gifts are getting less plentiful and more expensive! Santa was very good to Griffin (even though he only told us 2 things he wanted Santa to get him).

We had a wonderful brunch and our traditional Christmas dinner of surf and turf and it was delicious.
And now I am sitting here as I do every year, feeling incredibly blessed but also sad that it is all over for another year.

Christmas Card

Every year it becomes more of a struggle to get a good picture of the boys.  This year we did individual pictures... much easier {although I miss having the three of them in one picture}.
Merry Christmas.

Cookies

This December has not been the healthiest around here. One by one starting with Nolan we all got the Noro virus. It was horrible. Nolan lost 10 pounds and we all felt absolutely lousy for days.
Once all of us (but Trevor) were feeling better we decorated cookies. We did it on a small scale this year, meaning we did not have 6492 cookies to decorate and we did not have the decorating tools. It was the perfect number of cookies for the year.
Griffin really got into decorating the cookies (with massive amounts of decorations)
but even more into the eating of the cookies!
Nolan spent a lot of time on each cookie and really got into the details.

Cookie decorating is always a fun tradition and Trevor was missed!

All Dressed up for Chirstmas

I always love looking at houses all decorated for Christmas. Today I am linking up to KellysKorner.com Christmas Tour of Homes.
This year I have not decorated as much as I have in past years. I am not sure why I did not get into it this year but I'll blame it on turning 40 this month.
We got early snow this year so we decided to forgo cutting down our own tree. Instead we headed to local nursery to purchase our tree. Boy, was that easy. All we had to do was pick the tree. They cut the branches off the bottom and tied it on our vehicle.

I also put a few decorations throughout the kitchen and family room.

The boys have their trees trimmed in their rooms and I threw a few wreaths on the door and beside the garage and called it good.
I love this time of year even if it is not as decorated as most years!

Thanksgiving Weekend

I am a little late on the Thanksgiving recap. We have had some sickness running through the house and I ended up with Strep throat which pretty much knocked me out for a few days.

Thanksgiving was wonderful. I did not take a lot of pictures. I was too busy eating, drinking, watching the parade, eating, drinking, watching football, eating, drinking and enjoying wonderful company.
We had a beautiful backdrop for Thanksgiving. It snowed most of Wednesday and left us with a lovely Thanksgiving day. We were lucky to have power. I know many in my community and surrounding communities did not.
We spent some time outside: shoveling snow,

watching the dogs play in the snow,

acting like a fool jumping of the deck
and just plain looking cute.
The food was wonderful and that is where the pictures ended. I have no pictures of Trevor because he spent most of the day in bed not feeling well. I did not get a group picture either, which I am upset about but I blame not getting that picture on the drinking I mentioned earlier.

Friday we got up and did our annual black Friday shopping and brunch. We always have a great time!
After shopping, we headed up to camp for a quiet, relaxing few days.

It was absolutely beautiful on the lake.

And an absolutely perfect Thanksgiving holiday!

Griffin is Thankful

Griffin was not in to giving me his list of things he is thankful.

He was quick to tell me he was thankful for pickles.
After much pushing, he {with out much enthusiasm} added that he is thankful for his mom, his teacher and his school.

I am not linking to his previous years because our internet is stinking big time right now!

Open House at MSSM

So this weekend we took the long trek up to Limestone for the MSSM open house.

Trevor has been very interested in attending school here since he went to summer camp at the school. Trevor has been researching the school and after deciding that is where he wants to go, working on the application.

The open house and interview are one part of the application process. We learned a lot about the school. It was great and informative.

I learned the school is INTENSE. The work load is massive and the day is structured much like a college day is. The living quarters are much more monitored than college. The kids are watched much closer, thankfully! The school is very much its own little community, community of exceptionally bright, motivated, hard-working, committed students. The staff and faculty are top notch and are very plugged in with these kids.

We attended classes and asked questions of the panels. We meet the staff and faculty. We toured the campus and ate in the cafeteria.

We learned the expectations of these students and they are tremendous. We learned that kids hit brick walls and pick themselves back up with the help of teachers, tutors, counselors and staff. We learned this school is not for everyone, actually not for most.

And after learning all this, Trevor is more intent on attending this school then ever before.

I am proud of him and have my fingers crossed his application is accepted.

GYSA End of Year Celebration

Trevor has played GYSA for the past 5 years.

He started as an adorable 8 year old
and last night we celebrated the end of the season, and the end of GYSA for Trevor. He played for all 5 years, and has changed into a 13 year old.
Now a 13 year old, he has learned much more than foot skills and soccer.

He has learned disappointment. Disappointment at losing a game, not playing as well as expected, not getting the minutes on the field as hoped, etc. He has learned to be patient and tolerant. His team has not been the easiest or the best behaved. He has learned to give it all he has even when he does not feel like it. He has learned time management with practices many nights a week.
Most importantly, he has learned to be a team player. He was always supportive of his teammates. He was always encouraging and positive. He was always quick to lend a hand or a pat on the back. These things are far more important than all the fancy foot skills he has learned. And these things are skills that will get him through life.
His coach had a lot to say. Most importantly he said Trevor is a team player. {And don't mind my video skills. I had a 6 year old on my lap, who by the way, was a one year old when Trevor started with GYSA.}

He has made us so proud. I will miss the cold mornings, cheering the Strikers on from the sidelines.

And he continues to make us proud. He has had to make a very difficult choice. Play-offs have been rescheduled to next weekend due to the winter weather we had this past weekend. Trevor is scheduled to interview at MSSM next weekend and would miss the rescheduled play-off games. We gave him the choice as to what he wants to do. I know it was a very hard decision, one that he is still wrestling with, but he decided the best choice would be to go to MSSM. I know he is sad about missing this game. I am too.
As they say, all good things come to an end. And we know there will be many more good things.

Trevor, we are so proud.

Halloween

So let's start by saying I failed at Halloween. We did not buy a single pumpkin, I barely decorated and we did not give out any candy this year. I am okay with all this, but wish I did a better job taking pictures.
We have been busy going in a million different directions. Hockey has started with practices 3-4 times a week, soccer continues for Trevor with his team making it to the semi-finals and then throw  applying to MSSM, work and school into the mix... equals very little free time.

Trevor headed to a friends for Halloween. He threw on his soccer jersey and a mullet wig that has been re-purposed many times and was off to hang with friends and trick or treat. He came home the next morning with TONS of candy.
The rest of us spent Halloween at friends house. The older kids went to a haunted woods, that I heard was pretty scary. After they went trick-or-treating and they came home with quite the hall of candy too.

Nolan dressed up with a mask he wore last year and Griffin dressed up as a Power Ranger. I only got pictures of Griffin, oh-well.

Hope you all had a happy Halloween!
