Christmas

We had a great Christmas, but for the most part, you will just have to take my word for that.
I failed at getting a picture of the family.

I failed at getting a picture of the boys in their matching pajama's.
I failed at getting a picture of our lovely brunch and dinner table.

By the time I remembered I needed/wanted a picture of the boys together, the wheels had started to come off. For it was a great day, but one that is highly anticipated with little sleep leading up to the big day. Griffin was so cute and excited about all his gifts, but became over exhausted and had a melt down in the afternoon. He got over it quickly, but I knew that a picture would not be successful. Oh well.
We had family and friends on Christmas Eve and it is one of my favorite things about the holiday. It is always a good time with lots of great food, good cheer, laughs and fun.
Christmas morning was spent with family opening presents. I think I managed to surprise all the boys with at least one gift. Trevor was most excited and surprised with his apple watch.
We had a wonderful brunch and later a delicious dinner of surf and turf. In between meals, we spent a lot of time building toys and playing games.
It was another wonderful Christmas. I say this often but I know I am so blessed to have a family I enjoy being with. We all have such a great time together and it truly makes for the very best holiday!

Christmas Eve Eve

I just love this time of year. I only wish it did not go by so fast. Time has flown since Thanksgiving. It seems every year it just goes by faster and faster.
I am trying to soak up every minute of this most wonderful time of the year and not focus on the speed at which the time is going and the rate at which my kids are growing.
Christmas Eve Eve might be my favorite day of the year. I love the excitement and hustle and bustle of the holiday. I enjoy the anticipation and love that the holiday is still yet to come.
I absolutely love having my whole heart under one roof. Having Trevor home with Nolan and Griffin for the holidays is the best. gift. ever.
I love the house decorated and the glow of the lights with beautifully wrapped presents under the tree.
The coziness of the fire under the decorated mantel warms my heart.
Getting and sending Christmas cards is one of my favorite things about the holiday.
I look forward to having friends and family over on Christmas Eve to share laughter, food and good cheer.
I look forward to a Christmas Day spent with the ones I love and cherish most.
It is the most WONDERFUL time of the year.

Thanksgiving

A nasty cough has taken me down for the past week, which is why this post is so late and long overdue.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I did not take many pictures and there is not much more I can say other than BLESSED. I am so fortunate to be able to spend time with my family that I cherish and eat wonderful food in a warm, happy, safe home.
It was so nice to have Trevor home for the week. Although he took naps here and there, he was much more engaged than when he just comes home for a long weekend. I think he really needs a week to get rested and back into the swing of things at home. I am so thankful for the week we spent with him.
Friday we did our regular early morning girls shopping trip. We are not crazy black Friday shoppers. I just love all the hustle and bustle and Christmas cheer. I do not go looking for any huge deal and I avoid crazy long lines, but I do enjoy all the excitement of it. We end our shopping with brunch and I think I look forward to my crab cake Benedict more than the shopping.
After shopping, we went and got our Christmas tree, put it in the stand and high tailed it up to camp for a relaxing few days.
We returned home early Sunday morning to put Trevor on the bus back to school (and I may have shed a few tears but I am getting better).
After dropping T off we had two hockey games.
It was a great holiday weekend. This truly is my most favorite time of the year!

On Thanksgiving Eve

I was looking back at last Thanksgiving Eve on my blog and it was remarkably similar to today, Thanksgiving Eve.

I took Trevor to the movies, the last Hunger Games movie and then I came home and made a pie. Last year I took the boys to see the 2nd Hunger Games movie and then came home to make a pie.

And as I reflect today on my many blessings, I am so thankful that today was like last year. I am blessed that we have had a relatively uneventful year.

I am fortunate that I have the same family sitting around the table this Thanksgiving and they all are healthy and well.

I have the same job as I had last year and although I don't always love it, I am thankful to have it.

My boys are happy, healthy, smart and fun. Although it has been a huge challenge for me getting used to Trevor being away, I am abundantly blessed to be their mom.

I am blessed to have a wonderful, supportive husband who loves me for me, even if he drives me crazy on a daily basis.

And no, life has not been all roses. There has been some sad, some really sad, bad things but today I choose to look at all my blessings and for that I am thankful.

I hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving.

Team Captain

Nolan's coach pulled him out of the locker room after practice.
From where I was sitting, it did not look good. Nolan is shy and was looking down and there was not even a hint of a smile on his face. I was pretty concerned because N does not take being called out well at all.
After the conversation with coach, he went back in the locker room to get dressed in his street clothing. I went down to meet him when he came out of the locker room so we could get his skates sharpened. He was smiling and I was relieved.
He got a big smile on his face when he told me that coach asked him to be the team captain. He is responsible for shaking hands with the opponent's coach and the refs. He will be leading the team in warm ups and providing a positive, encouraging attitude on the bench to his teammates.
This is just what this shy boy needs. He is going to be taking a step out of his comfort zone and that is a great thing.
He is a great hockey player and has had a very strong start to the season. I am excited to see how this Team Captain continues to grow as a player and strengthen his character.
We are so proud of you, Nolan.

Life Lately (according to my phone)

So life lately has been consumed with hockey and practices, work and school, but we have managed to fit a few other things in our days.

First, my heart is hurting for all of us. What happened in Paris is so incredibly sad and scary. My heart is with the people and families of those touched by the tragedy in Paris.
Trevor received his first varsity letter. I am so proud of is dedication and hard work he put into playing soccer. School alone was a huge adjustment and then to add soccer on top of that was a huge commitment. He did it all well with only a few bumps in the road. I am looking forward to him coming home next weekend for a full week! I have definitely gotten more used to him not being home day in and day out but I still miss him just as much as I did after first dropping him off.
Last weekend, Griffin and I squeezed in a little Mommy/Griffin time to go see the new Peanuts Movie. We both loved our time together and the movie. I thought it was really cute and Griffin was laughing out loud. We both love our little dates.
Griffin has been waking in the morning and without being asked brushing his teeth. He even makes his bed. I think he has a thing or two to teach his older brothers. I am still reminding the big boys to brush their teeth and forget about making the bed!
Griffin went with Dad to a big brothers/big sisters charity event, Kids and Claws. He got to meet, eat dinner, play ball and hang out with the Red Claw basketball players. He had fun trash talking the pro players. He is all about basketball for the moment.

Nolan was invited to go to a rock climbing wall with one of his buddies. I was not surprised that he wanted to go but I was sure he would never climb one of the walls. He tends to have a fear of heights so I though no way would he do that.

Boy was I wrong. He started out on the easy walls but quickly moved up to the more difficult walls with small grips and ledges. He loved it and can't wait to go back. I am amazed by my boys daily!
Griffin has been selected to be the star of the week this week. He had to make a poster to tell about himself. He was so excited to do this. He and I worked on this little project and as you can tell his is very proud of his work!

And today we have hockey! It is going to be a tough middle school game, but fun none the less. Yesterday, Nolan and his huskies team won 11-0. Nolan had two goals and three assists.. which made for very happy boy. Way to go Nolan!

Hockey Season has Begun

On Sunday Nolan played in his first
hockey game of the season.
He had two games: Huskies and Middle School.
His Huskies team had a very successful first game winning something like 13-2. Nolan scored 2 goals and assisted in a handful more.
Nolan is on the A team for middle school this year. The play is much faster in middle school and the competition often tough.
The first game of the season was against Portland and the boys did a great job with a tie game of 1-1.
We are so happy to be back in the rink spending our weekends (and week days).

Trick - or- Treat

We had a great Halloween with
great friends
and lots and lots of candy.

The boys did our neighborhood and then a few more. Rob was driving them around and when I asked why they were going to more houses Nolan's friend told me Halloween only happens once a year.
So I would say if you measure Halloween success based on candy alone, the boys were extremely successful.
Their smiles, excitement and stories also tell what a great night it was.

And, of course, we missed Trevor (as we do every day) but we spoke with him this morning and he seems to have had a great Halloween weekend with dances and movies.
This is all just the kick off to the most wonderful holiday season. Bring on the good cheer and festivities!

Weekend with Trevor

On Thursday, my mom and I made the long trek up to MSSM to spend parents weekend with Trevor.

I had the opportunity to meet most of his teachers, which was great. This school is so different from our local school that it was good to get some perspective. Trevor is doing well. Most importantly, Trevor is very happy there.

I got to watch Trevor play in his varsity soccer game. The first high school game that I have been able to watch Trevor play in. Although they did not win, they fought very hard. It was so exciting seeing him play in a varsity game.

And the best thing about the weekend, was I got to bring Trevor home. He goes back to school on Tuesday, but it is so nice to have him home for a few days.

We all miss him so much, especially Griffin. He is glued to Trevor's side when his is home. It is so sweet but so sad all at the same time.
