Happy Birthday Griffin

Happy, happy
SEVENTH birthday
Dear Griffin.

Griffin,  Time is flying by. I think I have seen the most growth in you this past year. You are definitely no longer a baby, you are a big boy with a mind of your own. You love your family, especially your "MaaaMaaa". You idolize your brothers and enjoy playing with them.
You are a great student. I once thought you may never mutter a word, but now you have a huge vocabulary and lots to say! You are a math whiz. You love to practice math calculations in the car. You are doing great with your multiplication and are starting to get division. Gym is your favorite time at school. Sometimes, you get so excited you have a hard time listening. You have made great friends in first grade and you are excited to go to school everyday.
You are a kind, caring, sensitive boy. I call you my old soul. It is hard to describe but your sensitivity and understanding of peoples feelings go way beyond your 7 years. You can be so thoughtful and understanding of matters that most little boys would not even understand. I love this about you.
My favorite thing about you is your smile that can light up a room. You are one happy boy and take every new activity/adventure with such joy and enthusiasm. Your happiness is infectious. It is impossible not to smile when you smile. I know you are going to grow and change over the years, but the one thing I hope {more than anything else} that never goes away is the joy and energy you express all the time. Griffin, I hope your smile continues to be contagious even when you are 77. Your happiness and joy are a gift that I hope you carry with you forever.
You are one loved boy. I hope you have the most fabulous 7th year!
I love you,

In Hopes of Making a Snowman

After a day of snow,
today we were hoping to get out and make a snowman. Unfortunately, the snow was too light and fluffy to form any sort of snowball. {Rob knew this going out, but humored me for quite some time - Thanks Rob. This California girl is still learning the different consistencies of snow}

So instead...
we followed the deer tracks in our yard,

threw snowballs at Dad,

played some basketball,
made a deer out of Griffin,

posed for pictures,
blew snow,
all while Trevor shoveled the deck. I reminded Trevor that he loves the snow. He informed me that he only loves the snow when he is snowboarding.

What a Weekend

Nolan played in 3 hockey games this weekend. His team won each game.
Since being sick, Nolan has not been playing to his potential, but this weekend was different. Nolan played three great games. He played center in all three, a position he does not often play. He played hard, covered all the ice and made two goals!
It was so much fun to watch him play his game. He was aggressive and spunky.

After playing so well all weekend, Rob and I took Nolan to get some new hockey equipment and out to lunch. We had a great day just spent with Nolan.

Trevor and Griffin went boarding and skiing with my mom, sister and Debbie. Trevor took a friend with him and they all had a great time.
The evening did not end so well. I got a call that they had been in an accident on the way home from the ski resort. The roads were horrible. Thankfully, none of them were hurt.
Even though, I knew everyone was okay, the anxiety I felt when I arrived at the accident site with the ambulance and other emergency vehicles was overwhelming. I was so happy to wrap my arms around my loved ones.

As I reflect on this weekend, I am so thankful that I get to spend one-on-one time with my kids. I am thankful I get to watch Nolan play a sport he loves. I am thankful my family enjoys taking my boys and doing things they love and spending time with them. I am most thankful for my family and that they are all okay.

Hockey, Hockey, Hockey

Even though I have not posted any hockey pictures, we are in full on hockey mode.

Today, we only had one game and we are not sure what to do with all our free time.

Nolan and his team are having a great season.  We could not ask for a better group of kids, parents and coaches.

The team is definitely having a winning season and it has been fun to watch them play.
So since I have not posted any pictures, this post will be full of pictures. I hope to be better about blogging but life is just busy right now.

Basketball Half-Time Show

Monday night Griffin and his team, Gold Lightening,

performed some baller tricks at the High School basketball game.

This is big time for these little 1st and 2nd graders.

Griffin has been having a great time with basketball. I went to part of his game today and that is about all I can take. Basketball is a hard game for young boys to learn. I was able to see Griffin dribble down the court {and travel on more than one occasion} to tightly hold the ball until all was clear for a perfect shot in the net. He was thrilled with his basket, as was I.
Not sure basketball will be his sport, but you never know. He really seems to like it a lot.

New Year's Weekend

We kicked off New Year's Eve
with Salty Pete at a Pirates hockey game.
Nolan went on the ice with a few of his teammates to do the flag ceremony.
Salty Pete gave the boys some noise makers. Griffin had a blast with his.
We rang in the New Year {a few hours early} with fireworks. It was a fun night and a great low key way to celebrate the New Year. If it were not for the Pirates game, I would have spent the evening on the couch.
New Year's morning we headed up to camp for a very chill, relaxing few days at camp.
We played lots of games and enjoyed family time together.
Tomorrow it is back to the routine.
Hoping 2015 is the best year yet!
