This Isn't Easy

So Trevor has been gone for 4 weeks.

I thought as time passed, it would get easier or at least I would get used to having him away. Well, that has not happened.

I miss him more than ever.

This is harder than I ever expected.

It has been so difficult to hear from him so infrequently. There have been some challenges for Trevor and parenting and being assured your child is fine from 6 hours away is not easy. I have had a few (okay maybe more than a few) sleepless nights.

The good news is that he is really happy. He has made many friends, is loving soccer, is being challenged and is doing well in school. All good things. All things to be proud of. All we wanted for him.

But that does not make it any easier for me.

He comes home next week and I can't wait to wrap my arms around him and drill him with a million questions. (He is going to love this!)

And saying goodbye after next weekend is going to be even more difficult than saying goodbye the first time. I am going to do my best to not think about that and enjoy my time with him. I will face that when the time comes.
And having found this picture definitely did not help with how much I miss him.

So Soccer Weekends have begun

We started the weekend with Griffin's first soccer game of the season.
He has many good friends on his team and the coach is one of his buddies dad. This is a good and a bad thing. I am happy he knows his coach but he is so comfortable with him that he does not stop talking.
He started in the net (his choice) and that was fun for awhile. He got really tired of it really quickly. One of the players on his team kept shooting in his net and this made him pretty mad.
Oye- having big brothers has made this boy quite competitive and he having soccer loving brothers, he knows more about soccer than most 7 year old's do.

Nolan played in 3 games this weekend.
He is having a good time with his team. They are working hard together and hopefully the team will continue to improve.
Nolan has become a good soccer player and really seems to be enjoying soccer. He even decided to play on the middle school team, so he has 7 practices a week between GYSA and middle school.

After 3 soccer games and lots of friends over, Nolan ended the night on the ice with a middle school hockey practice.

It was a great weekend.

First Day of School {seventh and second grade}

Pencils sharpened, school clothing picked out, backpacks packed...

school started today for Nolan and Griffin.
Nolan said last night that he was kind of excited for school to start. I don't think I have heard that from him since 2nd grade.
He came home from school very happy. He loves his science teacher who also happens to be his social studies teacher. He likes all his teachers and has friends in his classes. Now if he can focus on school and less on socializing and being the class clown, seventh grade might be a great one!
Griffin was not into cooperating for pictures this morning, but he was excited for second grade. Nolan had Griffin's teacher for second grade too and I just adore her. I know he will have a wonderful year with her.
He had a great first day of 2nd grade. He said his teacher was really proud of him for doing all his tasks and he had a great time with all his friends.

I have had a difficult few days. I miss Trevor so much. It was so hard to see all of Trevor's friends parents posting pictures of their kids first day of high school. I was not with Trevor on his first day to take a picture. Griffin asked if he had to take a picture with Nolan and I said no. I did not want a picture of the first day of school of my boys with Trevor missing.
And just like that we are back to homework, packing lunches, early mornings and busy schedules.
