Playing at the Pirates Game

Nolan's hockey team played a short hockey game after the first period of the Pirates game. This was such a HUGE deal for Nolan. He was so excited to play with a (semi) professional team.

He high-fived the players as they were introduced

and then got a tour of the players locker room.

He played a great, quick game! Nolan had a great breakaway but was tripped up before he could get a goal. It was so much fun to watch my hockey obsessed son play on the Pirates ice.

Griffin's 4 year physical and Silly Boys

The boys were being so silly last night making whip cream mustache's.

The boys got the idea from their father. Rob was the first to sport a whip cream mustache. And if you know Nolan, you know he always has to take it to the next level, so he added a beard.

Griffin was the only one that wanted no part of it. He laughed at his brothers and dad but was content to lick the whip cream out of the bowl.

Griffin had his 4 year physical today. He is 41.5 inches tall and 41.5 pounds...a perfect cube! Everything looks great. He is a healthy, happy little boy. He had to have one shot but a light up ball made it all better.

Brace Face

Nolan had a busy morning. First he had an orthodontist appointment to get braces put on. The braces are not to straighten his teeth but to make room for some adult teeth to come down. He looks adorable, of course. He picked blue and red bands for the braces in support of the Patriots.

Then he had a follow up doctors appointment for a rather nasty, painful ear infection that is not clearing up. After being on Augmentin and a Z pack, his ear is still not clear. He is starting another Z pack in hopes of clearing it up for good.

The day was not all appointments. Nolan and I enjoyed lunch out together before I dropped him at school.

Happy Birthday, Dear GRIFFIN!!

Griffin,

Wow, you are 4 years old today. I remember your quick (scary) birth like it was yesterday. You were and continue to be such a happy guy. You are always on the go and you rarely sit still for too long.

Your sweet smile is contagious and you have the absolute best laugh ever! I smile every time I hear you laugh. You are one silly boy. You love to do crazy things to get others to laugh at you.

You are very particular and like to do things on your terms (but who doesn't?). You like things just the way you want them. You often want to pick the cup or plate you are going to use. Sometimes you even like to pick your own clothes (I must tell you that I don't love when you want to pick your clothes).

You are a love. You are sweet and affectionate. You enjoy cuddling up to your mom and hugging all your friends at school.

Superhero's, video games, Buzz and Cars are some of your favorites. You love to eat quesadillas, pizza and lunchables. You are a good eater when you want to be and will try almost anything.

You are one LOVED little boy (sometimes too loved). Your brothers are constantly asking for hugs and kisses. They love to pick you up and carry you around (not an easy task since you are such a BIG boy). I also can't get enough of your sweet cheeks. I could love on you all day long, if you would let me.

You have added so much to our family, more than I ever thought a third boy could do. I thought a third boy would be more of the same but you have shown me. You have challenged me. I have learned that I do know what is best for you and that I must stick with my instincts.

You are my sweet, baby boy and you always will be! I love you more than I could ever put in words!

Skiing and Riding

It was the perfect day to spend skiing and riding at Sunday River. The weather was sunny and calm. There were no lines; the boys practically had the mountain to themselves.

The boys had a great day! At the end of the day both of the boys asked when they could come back.

I was amazed at Trevor's progress snowboarding. He really looks like he knows what he is doing. I watched him make it all the way down the run without falling. He is loving riding and wants to continue.

Nolan continues to be an excellent skier. It seems he is learning to slow down a bit and really seems to have a lot more control. He had a great time and wanted to go on more difficult runs.

We are home now and the boys are absolutely exhausted. What a great day!!

Interviewing Griffin

I saw this cute little questionnaire to ask your child. It suggests asking your child every year on his/her birthday. Since Griffin's birthday is right around the corner, I decided to interview him. This is his interview:

School Project {Marble Maze}

UPDATE: Trevor's maze was clocked at 25 seconds {his goal, woohooo} which got him second place!

Trevor and I {with some help from Lowes and Dad} spent 6+ hours on his school project. He is learning about gravity and friction so his assignment was to create a Marble Maze {with set dimensions and guidelines}. The marble needs to move through the maze as slow as possible.

This was a fun project, but there were a few times that I wanted to throw it out the window. Points are also awarded for style and creativity. Trevor, my soccer loving son, went with a soccer theme and title the maze "The Game". Trevor likes to do everything the best. He is hard on himself and wants to do things perfectly.

His teacher told the class the record for the maze {in all her years of teaching} was 27 seconds. Well, Trevor set a goal for his marble to take at least 25 seconds. This was a big goal.

After working and re-working, he finally came up with a best time of 24.3 seconds. He is satisfied with this time {thankfully!}.

I am very proud of him. He did an excellent job on this project!

Snow Day

School is cancelled because a snow is gently falling and covering our neighborhood in a blanket of white.

It is absolutely beautiful. We love the snow!

The boys and I decided it was a great day to bake cookies.

Now the boys are outside and I am curled up on the couch for 15 minutes of peace.

Huskies Hockey Tournament

Over the holiday break, Nolan's hockey team participated in a hockey tournament.

I was so impressed with how well Nolan is doing. He has improved so much from last year and his games are really fun to watch. I have not been to many of his games this season because they all seem to be at 7 am. I just can justify dragging Griffin out of bed so early to go to a game.

I was able to go to all three of his tournament games and I am amazed at my hockey star. He had many shots on goal and finally got a goal!

He also participated in the hockey skills competition. He skated in the relay. He did a great job and his team lost by a hair.

I have really gotten into hockey and enjoy watching Nolan and his team play. They have really learned how to work together and pass. I look forward to many years spent at the ice rink. I am so proud of you, Nolan.

Rob has worked very hard this winter to get a backyard skating rink.

Today is finally cold enough that the rink is frozen and ready for skating.

Trevor does not skate nearly as much as Nolan, but I think he is going to enjoy practicing.

Nolan was thrilled. I think he will be spending a lot of time out on this rink, weather permitting.

The Night Before Christmas

The Night before Christmas was spent with delicious food, holiday cheer, good friends and family.

Triplets, my bestie, mom and I thought it would be funny to all wear the same sweater.

We played, a family tradition, the forehead game. Good times. We had Michael Jackson, Lawrence Welk, Justin Beiber and even Santa.

And, my mom is going to kill me for posting this, but Christmas Eve is not complete until my mother dances the Nutcracker Suite for all of us.

After the festivities, we went to bed with warm hearts and excited anticipation for Christmas Day.

Someone was not into having his picture taken, he was bored to sleep. haha.

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!

I love to take pictures of the house during the holidays. I picture my kids 29 years from now looking back and reminiscing about Christmas past.

This is our main tree. Every year we chop down a tree. I love the smell and the look of a fresh tree. We also have 4 artificial trees, one in each of the boys rooms and one in the playroom.

I am in love with my mantle this year. In past years I have decorated with greens but this year I wanted something different. I love the colors and the whimsy of the mantle this year. I would like something to hang on the mirror, but have not found the perfect thing yet... that may wait until next year.

Our stockings are hung, but not on the mantle this year.

Our bar stools are dressed in their Christmas best.

The Weekend

We had a busy, but fun weekend.

We did our annual cookie decorating. The boys really got into it this year.

Nolan liked to eat each cookie he decorated.

The cookie Trevor is most proud of!

All I can say is frosting on the face and eyelashes. What I would give to have lashes like this.

We attempted a gingerbread house but it toppled over while we were decorating. Oh, well... it was fun while it lasted. And nobody seemed to upset about the mishap.

We prepared the skating rink. Hopefully with the cold nights we are having, we'll have ice soon.

We may have had a birthday celebration. Yeah, not sure I am ready to turn another year older.

And finally, we mailed out our Christmas cards. I love sending and receiving Christmas cards.

Santa's Village

Griffin spends lots of time being on the sidelines of one of his brothers games or activities. Yesterday was a special day just for Griffin. My mom, TG and I took Griffin to Santa's Village.

It was a great day! Griffin loved taking it all in. He was very apprehensive about the rides, but really enjoyed them once he got on them. My favorite ride of the day was the sleigh ride.

We feed Santa's reindeer cookies. They were so cute and sweet, too.

Griffin got to visit Santa's home. Mrs. Clause welcomed us into their adorable home and gave us hot apple cider.

I was not sure how Griffin would do with Santa. He has always liked him from a distance, but has never liked sitting on his lap. This Santa was so sweet and Griffin did (with a little pushing from me) finally sit on his lap.

He told Santa that he wants beyblades and race cars for Christmas and wished him a Merry Christmas.

Griffin made this adorable reindeer shirt with his hand prints in the Elves Workshop and he refuses to take it off.

It was so nice to do something just with Griffin. I so adore my sweet baby boy!

It was a wonderful day spent with a few of my favorite people. Gia and TG, thank you!

It was a day I will cherish always! Such sweet memories were made.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Thanksgiving Catch-up

We stuffed ourselves on delicious food, and enjoyed our day with family.

It was a beautiful day. The dogs had fun playing in the snow.

Friday, we went on our second annual Black Friday shopping trip. We even made the news. Haha.

We (mostly Trevor) cut down our Christmas tree. Friday night we decorated the tree and early Saturday morning, the tree crashed to the ground. So we did clean up of some broken ornaments, re-stabilized the tree, undecorated and redecorated the tree. Good times!

Griffin was under the weather on Friday. As we decorated the tree, he snuggled with "Christmas" on the couch.

Rob and my mom ran in the Turkey Gobbler 5K. The both did great and my mom came in 3rd for her age group!! The weekend was busy but good. It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here and I love it! It is my very favorite time of the year!

Nolan is Thankful

He is thankful for pizza, mom and dad, his teachers Ali and Shawna, toys and Lego's.

Playing Goalie

Nolan played goalie this weekend in hockey.

There were a lot of shots on goal. His coach said more shots were taken on him then in the Revolutionary War.

He did a great job and made a lot of great blocks.

The team is always so supportive of the goalies, which I think is so sweet.

He had fun and I am ready for him to be out of the goal for awhile.

Randomness and a Cutie

Griffin at the dinner table tonight sang, "I'm sexy and I know it".

I am loving, loving {although I wish I was not} the Hersey Kiss Caramels... oh, my they are so gooood!
We built our home 6 years ago and we got all new appliances when we moved in. In the past few years, we have had to replace our washer, dryer, dishwasher and fridge {none were older than 6 years old}. Yesterday, our 4 year old TV broke. What next?

Trevor went to the doctors today and came home with a diagnosis of pneumonia. Poor guy. Hopefully he will be feeling better really soon.

I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week. Hello, where has the time gone?
The weather has been in the 60's, so nice and warm for New England.

I just love the freckles on the bridge of Griffin's nose. They are so sweet. He is looking so grown up these days... my big boy.
Nolan is going to be goalie for hockey this weekend, his favorite position to play. It is not my favorite, though.

I lost my twice baked potato recipe that I always made for Thanksgiving. Rob wants twice baked potatoes for Thanksgiving. Guess I will be searching for a new recipe.

Okay, I think that was enough randomness for one day.

Officially a Hockey Mom

Well, I am officially a hockey mom. I had the honor of working the clock for Nolan's game yesterday.

Thankfully I had Trevor to help out. He took care of the clock and I got some close up pictures of Nolan playing hockey.

Although my feet were freezing and I was nervous about messing up, it is a great location to get some pictures. Nolan played really well. He has improved a lot since last year and as always is really enjoying it.

Bowling

Went went bowling to celebrate two very special birthdays {Ash and Kels}.

Bowling is always lots of fun.

I take it {a little} serious. After all I did take bowling in college, not that it is at all noticeable. I was very happy with my score of 100, yup that's right, 100 is good for me.

And I was proud of that 100, until I saw my eight year old {who has never taken a bowling class} beat me by a mile. I was on a different screen but that would be 105 in the 9th frame for Ten-pin Nolan.

Griffin, like his mama, takes the game very seriously. Haha

Debbie kicked bowling butt in the last game getting like 7 strikes or something crazy like that!! Here she is getting some congratulatory love from Trevor.

Nolan is always one to boast and here he is doing just that.

Friday Phone Dump

Randomness

Trevor has a states test tomorrow. He and I did a practice test the other night and he did better then I did. I actually knew where every state was, I just got some (7, oops) of the state abbreviations incorrect.

The sunrise the other morning was absolutely incredible.

Griffin did not have the best day at school the other day. He had a few screaming fits and pushed a kid or two. He has been talking a lot about how it is not nice to scream and yell and that friends don't like when you push. Good, hopefully he realized that his behavior that day was not okay.
I rarely watch movies. This afternoon I decided to rent and watch Bridesmaids. It was very cute. I am glad I ignored my messy home and watch a movie instead.
Speaking of messy rooms, Nolan's room has been a disaster. I can't stand to have things all over the place. Clearly it does not bother Nolan. Today after homework he is going to banished to his bedroom until it is spotless!
I have started my Christmas shopping, which is huge for me. I have no idea what to get for my boys. There is not much they are asking for and there is nothing they really need.
So happy tomorrow is Friday. We have our last soccer tournament this weekend and then soccer season is over. I love soccer, but I also love to have a weekend day free of games.

We have a few inches of snow and it is not even November. Here at the Gava home, we love snow. So we took the opportunity to enjoy the sun and warmer (relatively speaking) weather and play in the snow.

It was the perfect snow to build our friend Count Snowula. I am sure he will be gone by tonight but we had fun building him. I must say we have much improved on building a snowman since our last attempt. Check it out here.

Snow balls were thrown, sledding was attempted (not the best snow for it) and fun was had by all!

Conferences

Today I had Trevor and Nolan's school conferences. I could have sat there all day and listened to all the wonderful things the teachers said about my boys. It is so nice to hear kind, compassionate, smart, hard-working and thoughtful in a the same sentence as Trevor and Nolan.

I know my kids are good kids, but there are days I think I have raised monsters. It is nice to know that the monster in my kids never goes to school with them.

Nolan's teacher thinks he is going to be an engineer. She says she can see the excitement in his eyes when he does math. He loves it! She is such a wonderful teacher and Nolan is so lucky to have such a dedicated teacher.

Trevor continues to do well. His teacher is really challenging him this year and that is just what he needs. He an excellent writer and she is going to get him writing lots this year.

Trevor and Nolan I am so proud of both of you. You are both amazing, sweet, smart boys!!!

My Nolan

Nolan is such a character. He is difficult to describe because at times he can be so shy but other times he is the life of the party. He often comes up with these one-liners out of the blue. I am often asking myself where he came from!

He and a few friends are running a business at school. They are making things (fans, planes) out of paper and selling them. It is so funny hearing him talk about his business.

The other day he told me he could not wait until he could move out so he could move to Los Angeles where are the sexy girls live. Help me!!!

He rarely says bye, it is usually peace-out. He is so wild and crazy. He keeps me on my toes and there is not often a dull moment when Nolan is around.

I love this kid! I would be lying if I did not say I don't know how I am going to survive his preteen and teen years. It will definitely be a wild ride...

Big Boy

Griffin loves to tell me that he is a big boy. And he is right. He is getting so big.

I have spent the last few years worried about Griffin. Worried something was wrong because he did not speak much, worried because someone (who should not have and was not qualified to) gave him a label. I spent many hours analyzing everything about him.

I am finally believing all the people (family, friends, his pediatrician) that have told me that Griffin is just fine. Yes, he is still speech delayed but he is making huge strides!

He is talking tons. He knows his numbers, some of his letters, shapes and colors. He knows feelings. Yesterday he told me he was smiling because he was happy.

He is a sweet boy. So happy, easy going and affectionate. I am so fortunate to have a happy, healthy big boy. Now if I could just get him 100% potty trained!

My Student Ambassador

Trevor completed an application of essay questions to be chosen as a 5th grade student ambassador. He is responsible for coming up with ways to improve the school, the community and the country. He is also responsible for embracing and teaching the schools code of conduct (Respect, Responsibility, Courage, Commpassion and Honesty).

Since this is a brand new school, yesterday they had the schools dedication ceremony. The student ambassadors were the greeters and tour guides. And the had to dress up for this! We are not a very fancy family so this was the first time he had to wear a tie.

He was not fond of the tie, but he looked adorable. He could not wait to get it off and he keep playing with it.

I have said it before and I will say it many, many more times, but I am so proud of Trevor and I am so fortunate to be his mom.

PumpkinLand

We spent the day at PumpkinLand. I have to say the big boys, Gia and I were rather disappointed. Griffin seemed to enjoy it though.

Not much to say about it. Zip lines, swings, animals and a haunted day ride. The weather was nice and it was a fun day with the boys.

A Snake in the Garage

Yesterday morning, after Rob went off to Nolan's soccer game with Griffin, Trevor and I decided we would run to the store to get a few things.

Trevor is in the car waiting for me when I open the garage and start to round the back of my car to the drivers seat, when I stop in my tracks! Sitting right at the edge of the garage is a big, huge, nasty snake! I am terrified of snakes. Let me say that again, I am absolutely TERRIFIED of snakes.

I see this snake and run, screaming back into the basement. Not sure what Trevor was thinking, but he had no idea I had just encountered a garter snake the size of a boa constrictor. After I put my heart back in my chest and composed myself, I stand at the door and yell at Trevor to get rid of the snake.

Trevor decides to try to scare the snake with the snow shovel, but the big, nasty snake did not budge. Trevor finally got the courage to push the snake across yard into the lawn.

We jump in the car and take off as quickly as we can. Trevor is my hero! I am still scared out of my mind to open the garage door.

So if I am going to be honest, the snake really looked more like this. But to me, a snake is a snake and they are all incredibly scary to me!

Friday Phone Dump

Tonight is the start to another hockey season. Evaluations are this evening and Wednesday. Nolan is so excited. He got in all his hockey gear way before he needed to because he is so excited! Did I tell you that Nolan is so excited about hockey?

He has been obsessed with hockey, well, since he started talking. He took skating lessons at 3 and started hockey at 4. These are his first skates next to the skates he will wear this year. The picture does not do the size difference justice. It amazes me that Nolan has been obsessed with hockey for so long... he did not get it from his dad or me.

Pearly Whites

Griffin went to the dentist this week. I was so nervous that he would not cooperate, but he was excellent. He was nervous about sitting in the big chair so I had to sit in it and he sat on my lap.

He was great about opening his mouth wide and letting the hygienist clean all his teeth. He was not so good about the flossing part. His teeth are very tight together and the flossing was not easy.

According to the dentist, his teeth look great and he is doing a good job taking care of them. He does have crowding issues (just like his big brothers) so he will need a palette expander when he is around 8.... but for now all is good. All day, he keep showing me his sparkly, pearly whites!

Apple of My Eye

Yesterday, ~~a lovely fall day~~ a hot humid summer-like day, the three apples of my eye, my family and I went apple picking.

Apple picking is one of my all time favorite fall activities. We left the orchard hot and sweaty... so not fall like.

The trees were full of delicious apples. We had no trouble filling our bags this year (last year we had to climb to the top of the trees).

The boys still thought it was fun to climb the trees although it really was not necessary. There were apples everywhere.

Griffin thought it was fun to climb on Daddy and grab apples from the comfort of his shoulders.

We ate our way though the orchard. Always fun to try the apples and (if you are one of the boys) chuck the core as far as possible.

Last night we had apple crisp for dessert and it was de.lic.ous!

Even though we have apples up to our eyeballs, I still hope we make it to the orchard one more time this fall, hopefully on a crisp fall day.

Preparing for the Rink

We have promised Nolan a backyard ice rink for years now. This year we is the year, finally!

We had a large mound of dirt delivered (but not enough to complete the job).

We had to relocate the swing set. A friend offered to bush hog and move the dirt (thank you, Ken!).

Griffin, had fun ~~driving~~ sitting on the tractor. At first he was nervous, but once he got on it he did not want off. And he is getting so grown-up looking... he looks like is actually old enough to drive this tractor. : (

Now, this winter we will have a backyard ice rink. And the goal of the rink is too keep Nolan busy and to wear him out. Lets hope it works!!!

A little about Griffin

Griffin is getting so big and his unique personality is really starting to explode. He has quite the mind of his own. He thinks he is a big kid and that he can do eveything his brothers do.

His speech is getting clearer and his vocabulary is increasing every single day. He calls himself "Grippin" which I think is so adorable. Even though I should not, I have been known to call him "Grippin", too.

He is one smart little boy. He can count and he recognizes numbers. He knows his colors and shapes and loves to be read to.

He can be stubborn with his hugs and kisses at times. Other times he smoothers you with love. He is most cuddly in the morning. He is not a morning boy. He likes to sleep in and is very slow to wake.

He has the sweetest light brown freakles on the bridge of his nose. I just love them. They are absolutely adorable. He is one very loved little boy! In the picture below, he looks so grown up.

Today is Griffin's very special godmother, "TG", birthday. Griffin and the rest of the family want to wish TG a very special birthday. You are so important to all of us. We love you!

I have been pretty absent for the last week. We are trying to get adjusted with our back-to-school schedule. I am also going to be working an additional day starting next week. We shall see how that goes.
My sister moved here from NYC! Yay! That has been keeping me busy, too. Helping her get settled has been fun but time consuming.

I am loving the fall-like weather. I love fall in New England. I am excited for the crisp mornings, sunny days and changing leaves.

Nolan has been maintaining his faux-hawk. Every morning he asks me to make his "precious" mohawk. Everything is precious to Nolan... his face, his mouth, his hair, his computer, etc.
Soccer has started in full force. Trevor had his first game last night and has one today and one tomorrow. Our weekends will be filled with soccer games, but we love it. Trevor has become such a skilled player and it is so much fun to watch him.

My sister got a new little convertible that the boys think is so much fun to ride in. They have really enjoyed having their aunt nearby.
Griffin is in school 4 days a week. I feel like I barely see him. Monday is the only day he does not go to school and he told me he wants to go on Monday's, too. My baby is growing up! He is adjusting well to his new preschool classroom (I think much better then I am).

So all is well, just busy. Hopefully soon we will get comfortable in the new routine and I will have a chance to pick up my camera and return to regular blogging.

He Makes Me Laugh.

Nolan is responsible for 80% of my gray hairs but he can be equally credited with making me laugh every single day. This kid is funny, sometimes intentionally and some times unintentionally. Sometimes I laugh at the delivery, other times I laugh at the message, but regardless I laugh daily thanks to Nolan.

Nolan: Mom, what's for dinner?
Me: Chicken that has salsa, cream of chicken soup and sour cream in it.
Nolan: (In all seriousness) I think you went overboard.
Me: Laughing so hard my stomach hurts.

Back to School

Today was the first day of school for the 2011-2012 school year. I love the summer and having the kids home but I also love, love the school year. Today was a big day for all three of my boys. The boys look so big. This was my post from the first day of school last year.

Trevor and Nolan started at a brand new school in our town. Trevor will only be there this year but Nolan will be there through 5th grade. The school is beautiful and the boys are so fortunate to have to opportunity to go to a new, bright school.

Trevor started 5th grade. This is his last year of elementary school (I don't even want to think about next year). He loves his teacher and is very excited about the year.

Nolan started 3rd grade. Nolan was very nervous this morning (which is so like him), but came home from school very positive and excited about his class, teacher and friends (thank goodness, I was so worried).

And my little Griffin is now in preschool. That is right, preschool. How. did. that. happen? He is at the same school with his same classmates but in a new classroom with new teachers. I am so sad he is not still with Ms. Lesley but I am sure I will like his new teachers just as much.

So after sending all the boys off to school, I shed a few tears and then pulled myself together. I will survive this year. The year will go by too fast, just like all the rest.

Irene

I have be dreading Hurricane (or in our case, Tropical Storm) Irene. I am not one to want to spend the entire day home. And then to think about losing power, with three kids home, all day long is not my idea of a good time.

So we prepared with lots of flashlights. So far, we have not lost power...I am so thankful.

It has been good for me to be home today. I got some things accomplished, that was much needed.

I made two different types of cookies with Trevor and Nolan.

We cleaned backpacks and prepared school supplies. T and N are start school again on Tuesday, yippee!

Most importantly, we cleaned and organized the playroom. We have officially removed all toys from the family room. I love not having to see toys in the family room but it also means my baby is growing up.

Speaking of baby... here is Griffin being a ham today.

Now I am off to enjoy some wine and relax the rest of the day while Irene blows through.

Nolan needs a haircut. So today Debbie is taking him while I am at work. He has been talking about getting a mo-hawk for quite a while now. I must say I strongly dislike mo-hawks. But being a hip, understanding mom (and knowing hair grows back) I said told Nolan he could do whatever he wanted, although I did strongly suggest a faux-hawk (because really they are adorable).

So today when I come home from work I will see if it is mo or faux. I am really, really hoping he opts for the faux! I am sure I will be very upset if I see a mohawk. I need to keep it in prospective, it is only hair and it will grow back!

So stay tuned and this afternoon we will see if he went for the mo-hawk (please no) or the faux-hawk....

Dear Nolan

Dear Nolan,

In a matter of days you are going to be eight years old. I remember your birth like it was yesterday. I will never forget it. Your birth story is so telling of your personality. When you decided it was time to be born, you were born (almost not making it to the hospital).

You are one determined young man. I know without a doubt, if you want to do something... you will do it. You are a very hard worker when you want to be. On the flip side, you are a very stubborn boy. You don't do anything you don't want to do. I am hoping as you grow into a young man, you learn to use these traits to benefit you.

Nolan, you are a strong boy. You are a great little athlete and I love to watch your enthusiasm for sports. I love how passionate you are about hockey and I love to watch you play. I hope you continue to find joy in playing sports.

Your rough and tumble personality has a very sensitive, caring side. You are extremely sensitive to others feelings. You often have a hard time apologizing just because you have such a hard time accepting that you hurt another person. Even though you don't always make the best choices, I know you want to do right.

You are my cuddle bug. I hope even when you are eighteen you will still want to cuddle up with me. You are very loving and affectionate.

I am so proud of who you are becoming. You are really starting to come into your own. You have interests and hobbies that are unique to you. We finally had a weekend without any commitments! We were able to get a lot done.
Last week we had a new fridge, dishwasher and dryer delivered. I am so happy to have all the appliances but after not having a working dryer, I am most thankful for the dryer. It is very difficult to do laundry for a family of 5 without a dryer.

Rob brought me some beautiful roses yesterday. It is such a nice treat when he gets flowers for me.
Trevor starts a week of travel soccer camp today. It is raining so I am guessing he will come home a tired, wet, muddy mess!

The other night (I think Saturday) we had such a beautiful moon.
Trevor and I have started the couch to 5k. I was considering not mentioning it but maybe by mentioning it I will be more accountable?!?

We have a busy exciting week this week. My sweet Nolan is turning 8 on Friday. We will be celebrating with a kids party at the SeaDogs baseball game (fingers crossed for no rain) and a family party on Sunday.

Swimming and Sunsets and More

We had another wonderful week at camp!

One of my most favorite things about camp is the sunsets. The sunsets are amazing and the pictures don't do them justice.

One of the boys favorite things about camp is swimming. They can spend hours in the water jumping off the dock and swimming. I usually spend the least amount of time in the water, but this year due to the humidity and heat I spent quite a bit of time in the water.

The kids {little and big} enjoyed tubing. A few of us decided to stay on the boat and not try tubing...I for one am not a big fan of a ton of water splashing in my face. Trevor and Nolan absolutely loved tubing. They had a great time with their tricks {hands free, riding a bull, and who knows what else}.

Griffin did have a great time watching everyone tube. He thought it was quite funny.

And of course what is camp without lobster. Yummy!

My sister tried kayaking for the first time. Trevor and Nolan went for kayak/canoe rides too. Trevor tipped his kayak when he went to explore the island but recovered well.

I miss being at camp and returning to the real world has not been easy. Both our dishwasher and dryer broke right before we left so we have had to deal with that. We also have a very busy schedule for the next few weeks before school starts. The boys are at different camps and Trevor's soccer has started in full force. I love that I have the memories of camp and can't wait to go back next year!

My sweet little boy is 3 and a half. Three and a half, how did that happen?

Griffin continues to be a happy, easy-going boy. His happy spirit is occasionally overcome by a strong-willed, stubborn boy, but thankfully that is not too often.

Griffin loves his school, friends (especially Cabot and Isiah) and his teachers. In September, he will be moving into a new class. He will be leaving the toddler class and going to the preschool class. How is he old enough to go to preschool? Griffin is continuing to have speech therapy and he is doing great. He is talking so much more and is becoming more understandable with every day.

His favorite color is yellow and his favorite food right now is Lunchables (any kind). He loves the show Team Umizoomi and the movie Cars. His favorite treat is popsicles and skittles.

He loves to play with cars and pretend to be a superhero. He loves sports, swimming and playing outside. He imitates his brothers and loves electronic devices. It is absolutely adorable to hear him sing along with his ipod. His favorite song is Dynamite.

He has put a smile on my face every single day for the past 3.5 years. He is an absolute joy and we are so blessed to be his parents.

A Quiet Home

Yesterday I dropped the big boys off at the cottage to spend a few days with Nana and Papa. As you can see they were very sad about this. Haha.

They are having a blast. Trevor called last night to say he caught a bass that was at least a foot long. Can't wait to see pictures of that. Nolan has been catching lots of sun fish. They have been swimming and playing and just enjoying having Nana and Papa's undivided attention.

Griffin was not happy to have to come home with me. Maybe next year he can stay with them. I think it is so nice for the big boys to have some time without the Griff.

Not to mention, our house is so quiet. I am not sure I would know what to do with myself if all of the boys were gone. Griffin keeps asking where Nolan and Trevor are. He is so used to having someone constantly bugging him that he is not sure what to do with himself.

We sure do miss the Trevor and Nolan and although the quiet is nice, we will be happy to have them back home on Friday.

The Pantry

I like no clutter visible in my home. People often comment on how neat my home is. But I have a confession. My drawers, closets and basement are usually an absolute mess. I put things out of sight so I don't have to see the clutter but the non visible places in my house are packed to the gills with all the clutter that I don't want to see.

This weekend I decided that I needed to tackle my pantry and hopefully make so changes that will help keep it organized for awhile. I spent a lot of time in my pantry because it doubles as my laundry room (and I always have laundry to wash or fold!).

I am hoping the bins will help me stay organized. It is so nice walking into the pantry now. I no longer need to worry about what is going to fall on me.

Now I need to tackle the rest of the closets, drawers and the dreaded basement. That will be another day, for now I am going to enjoy my organized pantry!

The Newest Members

The Gava gang has welcomed two new family members.

Met Carter Kane Gava. He resides in Trevor's bedroom. He is a bit shy. He can often be found hiding behind the plants. He seems to be happy and adjusting well to his new home.

Met Jack "Sparrow" Gava. He resides in Nolan's room. He is very friendly and loves to eat. He, too, seems to be happy in his new abode.

Hopefully, they will both stick around for awhile!

And speaking of pets, C.C. has not been featured on the blog in awhile.

C.C. has a new summer do and seems to be quite happy barking at walkers in the neighborhood. She has no comment on the new additions.

The Midnight Showing

Last night my Harry Potter loving boy, Trevor and his dad went to see the midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie.

We were not sure he would stay awake for the entire movie, but he did. The theatre was packed and they had to sit in the front row, but it did not phase Trevor. He had a great time and loved the movie.

All the news is talking about it being the end of an era, which is so sad. Trevor started reading this series in first grade and this series is what started Trevor's love of books. I hope there continues to be great books for the tweens!

Sebago Lake

We spent a hot couple of days at Sebago Lake.

It was a great time! We swam, visited with friends, swam, ate and swam some more!

This little Mister rarely left the water. He spent almost the entire day in the water.

Trevor also spent lots of time in the water snorkeling. He had a great time finding fish.

Nolan enjoyed doing crazy jumps off the dock.

It was a perfect day!

This morning while Nolan was at camp, Trevor, Griffin and I ran some errands. I told Griffin if he was good we would go to the park on the way home to play and feed the ducks.

Every store we went in he took his bag of stale bread for the ducks and announced to anyone who would listen, "I go to park."

He had a great time feeding the ducks. Instead of breaking off small pieces of bread, he would throw the whole slice.

He loved swinging, sliding and having some special time with his oldest brother!

The 4th of July Weekend

We had another fun filled weekend with family and friends celebrating. We celebrated Kelsey's graduation, Rob and my 12th anniversary and, of course, Independence Day.

We started on Saturday with a trip to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Cancun. We gave Kelsey her graduation presents and sang "Happy Graduation to you" in Spanish. Here she is on the boat after we got back.

Sunday, we celebrated with lobster and steamers. At times it seems like forever and at times it seems like just yesterday, but Rob and I have been married for 12 years. I am so fortunate to have someone who cares so deeply about family! Happy Anniversary, Rob.

On Monday, we celebrated America. We spent lots of time on the boat and playing games.

I always say this after spending time with family, but it is so true. I am so blessed to have a family where we all truly enjoy spending time together. We spent four days in a row together (yes, at times we annoy one another) and I loved every minute of it!

Annie

When I was a little girl, I loved the movie Annie {and I still do}. I remember, like it was yesterday, going to see the movie with my mom and sister. I have such fond memories of going to see that movie. We had just come out of a very difficult time and this is my first recollection of some very happy times.

Not only did I love the movie but my sister and I loved to play Annie. She was always Annie and I was always Molly. We would recreate the movie and sing the songs. I think we had all the Annie merchandise that was made: records, dolls, heart lockets.

Last night my mom sent Ashleigh and me to see Annie at a local theatre. The show was great. At times I had tears in my eyes and at other times I wanted to stand up and belt out the songs as if I were in the performance.

Thanks, Ashleigh, for a fun night. And thank you, mom, for taking me to the movies 28 years ago, creating such fond memories and recreating such wonderful memories!

I have been so busy. It seems like every day and every night there is something going on. I need to settle into a Summer routine. Hopefully, we will get in a routine before Summer is over!

Yesterday, a friend of mine, her boys, my two oldest boys and I decided to go spend the night at a hotel with an indoor water park. We had a blast.

Rob and I took the boys last year and they had just as much fun this year. We did miss having Griffin with us this year but he had a preschool and I did not want him to miss that. I also wanted to spend some time with the big boys. And if I am being completely honest, it is a lot easier with just the big boys.

We are exhausted. It will be an early night for sure.

I hope to get back to blogging more regularly soon.

Trevor and Nolan finished another fantastic year of school. It is so hard to believe. They both have grown and changed so much!

Trevor has become quite the {pre} teenager. How did that happen? He loves to hang in his room and listen to music. He has also perfected the teenage attitude. How is it possible he will be starting 5th grade? It feels like yesterday I was taking him to preschool for the first time. Here is Trevor on his first and last day of 4th grade.

Nolan has finished 2nd grade. Again, how did this happen. Wasn't he just a baby last week? He had a great year and made some wonderful new friends. Here is Nolan on the first and last day of 2nd grade.

The boys had a great year. I am sure they will have a fun, relaxing Summer and an equally great next year in 5th and 3rd grade.

Field Day

Trevor had is end of the year Field Day celebration yesterday. So hard to believe that 4th grade is coming to an end. I am so in denial that the Summer is going to be here next week.

Anyway, Trevor's class was the Canadian team and they participated in relay races. It was a fun day but super hot.

This is Trevor's amazing teacher. She is wonderful. This is her last year teaching after dedicating 30 plus years to education. Trevor was so blessed to have her as a teacher.

Home Sweet Home

As much fun as it was to spend a girls weekend with my sister and mom in California and a week in Baltimore with Trevor, it is equally, if not better, to spend an unscheduled weekend at home.

(He wanted to look like Tom Brady, so he took it upon himself to decorate his face...haha)

We had fun hanging with friends, drinking margaritas, yard work (even that was not too bad), playing with the boys,

(The boys got Ireland Winter hats from Debbie and they insisted on wearing them.)

running errands, laundry (okay not so much fun), sleeping in our own beds, reading, enjoying the beautiful weather,

watching the Bruins (unfortunately lose), cuddling with Griffin, working on potty training (so not fun, but so necessary), planting flowers (or having Mom plant them for you),

catching up with family about their trip to Ireland, grilling outdoors and playing outdoor games.

The weekend was just perfect, exactly what we needed after a couple of very busy, very scheduled weeks. It is going to be another busy week, but that is okay because after it all, we will have another fun weekend!

World Finals

Trevor and I just returned from Baltimore, MD and the Odyssey of the Mind World finals. We had a great time. We spent one afternoon in DC at the Mall and the Air and Space Museum. We had hoped to see more, but it was hot and our feet were tired.

We also went to the National Zoo. In hindsight, we wish we spent another day in DC. We did get to meet this guy. He was inside because he was hot, too!

We also got to see my best friend from college and her mom (my VA mom). It had been 9 years, which is way to long. It was wonderful to catch up with her.

The rest of the trip was spent at the finals. Trevor and his team did a great job performing their long term problem. The did not win, but I am so proud of how Trevor did. He really took a leadership role and did a great job managing the problem.

Trevor had a blast hanging with his friends, pin trading, living in the dorms and eating dorm food. I was thankful to have an air conditioned dorm and although I thought the food was horrible, I was happy to not have to cook or clean!

I know I have said it before and will probably say it many, many more times but I am so incredibly proud of Trevor. He is one amazing, thoughtful, smart, funny, compassionate boy. I am so fortunate to be his mom!

Trevor is looking forward to Odyssey next year and possibly going to Iowa for World Finals!

Home for a Minute

I just returned from a very quick trip to California with my .mom and sister. It was a very nice trip, but we did not get much sleep while we were out there. We did get to see the sun and that was very nice!

Griffin looks so much more grown up then when I left. I missed my boys terribly while I was away.

I am home for 2 days before Trevor and I pack up and head to Baltimore for the Odyssey of the Mind world finals. I am very excited and very proud of Trevor!

I have my fingers crossed, a new potty and some bribes (to help the effort)!

He is very interested in the Skittles but wants very little to do with the potty. So incredibly frustrating. I keep reminding myself that it was the same for the big boys, too. I also keep reminding myself that he will do it when he is ready and that he will not be going to school in diapers!

I think I should have got a few bottles of wine instead of the Skittles. I think I need the treats more than he does!

1. Spending time with family. I have said it before but I love my family. I am so fortunate to have the family and friends (that are family). Whether at home or in another country, spending time with family is my favorite thing!

2. Watching the joy on Trevor, Nolan and Griffin's face. The we so excited and had so much fun. It was such a treat to watch and experience this vacation through my kid's eyes. They loved ordering drinks, having dessert with every meal, swimming whenever they wanted and just enjoying the sun.

6. The resort. The resort and the location of the resort were beautiful. The resort is on a tip so we had ocean on 2 sides of us. The ocean on one side was very different from the ocean on the other side. We preferred the ocean with less waves and cooler temperatures.

5. Relaxing. This vacation was all about relaxing. We had lots of fun relaxing in the sun in the morning and sitting on the patio in the afternoons.

4. The dolphins. The resort we stayed at has their own dolphin cove with 7 dolphins. Most of our group had a great time swimming with the dolphins. Nolan wanted to swim with them but was very scared once he got in the water. He later regreted being scared. Trevor loved swimming with the dolphins and says that the dolphins were his favorite part of the vacation.

3. The blue water. The color of the ocean is just amazing. You really have to see it to believe it. The colors are so vivid and so different at different depths of water. Every day we would say, "Does the water look bluer today?" Amazing!

Top 10, Vacation Recap (Part 1)

I am overwhelmed by the amount of pictures I have from vacation and how I am going to recap our trip here on my blog. I decided the easiest way is with a top 10 (Letterman style) list.

10. The iguana's. They were so cool. We loved watching them hanging out on the lawn and sunning on the rocks. The way the run made us all crack up.

9. The food and drinks. We had some very delicious food. Our favorite was the Mexican food which I was too busy eating to get a picture of! Even better then the food were the drinks. We had some great bartenders make us some fun fruity drinks. Trevor became very fond of the virgin mud slides. We got Griffin virgin margaritas but he preferred the ones with alcohol. Nolan liked to drink coke, something he does not get at home often.

8. The sand. The sand was beautiful fine sand. Griffin had a blast playing in the sand and building castles with his Gia.

7. The sunrise and sunsets. It was so peaceful early in the morning. Not many people were awake at the resort and I enjoyed my alone (or alone with Nolan) time taking in the beautiful sites.

Just Returned.

Just returned from a wonderful family trip in Cancun.

Once I get settled and go through hundreds of pictures, I will be back to document the trip.

Bruised

At school on Friday, Griffin had a little run in with a windowsill.

I think the windowsill won. These pictures do not do justice just how swollen, bruised and blue Griffin's eyes and nose were. It was painful to look at him.

After the accident he was upset for quite awhile. Once he calmed down, it never seemed to bother him again. He is one tough cookie. His face is still swollen and bruised, but thankfully looks much better.

Boy, Did I Feel Old.

Last night I chaperoned a middle school dance. Wow, what an experience.

First of all, middle school dances are much different than I remember. When I was in middle school, boys were on one side of the gym and girls on the other and rarely, if ever, did the two meet! Not the case now, the kids were all intermingling, slow dancing and getting closer than I think middle school kids should.

Then the songs, some were foreign to me. Although, I started to feel not quite so old when they played the macarana and the electric slide (although none of the kids knew how to do the electric slide). The kids seemed to love the line dances. There was one song where all the kids would fling their hair around. I thought they were going to knock one another out. They ended the dance with Stairway to Heaven, which put me right back to my middle school dance. I think our dances always ended with that song, too.

What I learned from all this is that times have changed. I would like to put a brick on Trevor's head and keep him in elementary school forever or the other option would be to just skip over middle school and high school. I keep saying to myself, "Trevor will never be like that". But who am I kidding, of course he will.

Oh, what I have to look forward to!

In the Blink of an Eye

He looks so grown up and yes, I am very sad about the new look. I am the crazy mom at the hair salon with tears in my eyes as they cut my sweet boys hair. I decided that he needed to get his haircut for our upcoming vacation. I did not want to have to battle with the spray bottle and hairbrush every morning on vacation. But, boy does he look different. I just keep looking at him. How can a haircut make someone look so different, so GROWN up? He looks cute but I prefer the long hair. I keep telling myself that it will grow back and it will! By Fall, he will be sporting the longer, untamed look again.

Sweet Words

Usually he just goes about his business. Yesterday he resonded, "Griffin love you".

At that moment my heart could have just exploded. Such sweet words! I love this kid so much!

Preparing

Tomorrow we are supposed to get a big snow storm. Hello, did anyone tell Mother Nature that tomorrow will be APRIL. Enough of the snow... it was finally melting. I am guessing tomorrow school will be cancelled.

Trevor's Odyssey team is deciding if we are going to go to World Finals in Maryland. We went last year and it was an amazing experience. Trevor is really hoping that the majority of the team wants to go because he really wants to go again.

Saturday is Trevor's big birthday bash with friends. I think it will be a blast for the boys but a really, really long night for Rob and me. I am trying to stock pile sleep now in preparation for a night of little to no sleep.

And this post has nothing to do with these pictures, but they are just too cute. Griffin had fun wearing part of Trevor's costume for Odyssey. Griffin and his vocabulary are growing like weeds. He is becoming such a little boy (tear, tear).
